Pinksixty News TUESDAY 21 FEBRUARY 2012
Sixteen appeals to the Indian Supreme Court are challenging a 2009 ruling, which legalised gay sex. The court have asked the appellants to define 'unnatural sex' before continuing. The ex-Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, has formed a group to block the progress of same-sex marriage. The British Prime Minister and Opposition leaders are not in agreement with the churchman, as all support marriage equality. Lobby group, 'Get Up' bid 31000 Australian dollars for dinner with Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Three couples dined with the leader to put a human face to the issue of gay marriage, which Gillard is against. Sheriff and Mitt Romney campaigner, Paul Babeu, was forced to come out at the weekend after a story in a local Arizona newspaper. Babeu is accused of threatening a man with deportation if he made their relationship public. And finally, a new single challenging anti-gay bullying in schools has been recorded by some of the UK's top lesbian musical talent. 'It DOES Get Better' is currently number 1 on the Amazon Rock and Folk song charts, and you can see it on YouTube.

By Melanie Nathan, 2/21/2012 Expressed many times on my blog, is the fear that David Bahati’s Kill the Gays Bill, currently before the Ugandan Parliament, could well spread to other parts of Africa , as it is accompanied by the promotion of much anti-gay rhetoric and myth. seniorlesbian: The following I share with all my sister lesbians in honor of Black History Month and the great honor paid the members of the Prairie View A & M ACapella Concert Choir - of which I was a member.
On March 18, 1968, around 9pm, we were returning to the Lorraine Motel after our concert [we went on tour every year to designated cities in the United State).
The men were dressed in full tux, we women in formal gowns. We were tired, cold and hungry. I had a call waiting for me from my mother informing me my grandmother [her mother) had passed away.
Our Choir Director suddenly called us all to his room, where he informed us we had a special request.
Tired though we were, as a well-known Black College Choir, we could hardly refuse. Besides, we were still dressed.
Upon arriving in the lobby of the Lorraine Motel, we received a great shock. There sat Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as the rest of the members of the N.A.A.C.P.
Our spirits lifted. We asked him what he would like to hear. He requested two beloved negro spirituals: "I's Been Buked and I's Been Scorned" and "He Never Said A Mumblin' Word".
Believe me when I say, we sang that night! Before we left, he signed autographs, along with the date and time.
Of course, we had no idea what was to come until we finally arrived back at Prairie View. The President of the College met our bus and told us the tragic news of Dr. King's death.
We were crushed; especially since the News kept showing segments of our performance, reminding the listening audience that we were the last ones to perform for him.

New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie vetoed his state's bid for same-sex marriage equality on Friday, but Maryland passed the bill by a narrow majority, on the same day, making it the eighth US state to do so. The West African country of Liberia is considering a law which would make same-gender sexual relations punishable by death or life in prison. The bill has been proposed by the wife of ex-leader Charles Taylor, who was indicted for war crimes in Sierra Leone. Although a number of UK Premier League clubs signed up to tackle homophobia recently, only 16 out of 160 clubs have agreed to participate in the 'Football v Homophobia Campaign' which started Saturday. A government spokesperson called the teams' reasons 'mealy mouthed'. It's been revealed Whitney Houston was due to appear in an anti-bullying campaign the day she died. Her daughter was waiting with the photographer of the 'Stop Bullying Now' campaign, but her mother never came. And finally, London Fashion Week is well underway.
